Description

YORK SE6052SW GRAPE LANE 1112-1/27/431 (North West side) 14/06/54 No.19 (Formerly Listed as: GRAPE LANE No.19 and the entrance to coffee yard) GV II Formerly known as: No.9 and the entrance to Coffee Yard GRAPE LANE. House, now restaurant. Early C15, raised and refronted in mid C19; late C17 wing at rear; refitted 1989 following fire. Timber-framed, with wall-tile infilling originally, now fronted in plastered brick, rear of orange-grey brick in English garden-wall bond; wing of orange-brown brick in stretcher bond; pantile roofs. EXTERIOR: 3-storey 2-window front. Ground floor incorporates through-passageway beneath timber lintel at left. Entrance is C20 panelled door between tapered-headed posts to left of 4-light window with shutters of raised and fielded panelling. First floor windows are 4-pane fixed lights, single over passageway, paired to right. Second floor window is 2x4-pane Yorkshire sash. Wing has C20 door and window on to passageway, both with elliptical brick arches; first floor 3x6-pane casement window to gable wall has similar brick arch. Right side wall of passageway is timber-framed and joists laid flat are visible in the ceiling. INTERIOR: timber-framed cross wall visible on ground and first floors.
