Description

YORK SE6051NE FOSSGATE 1112-1/17/345 (South West side) 24/06/83 Nos.42 AND 43 GV II Pair of houses, now shops. 1825, No.42 incorporating C15 structure; C20 restoration and partial demolition of No.43; new shopfronts. Orange-cream brick in Flemish bond with stuccoed timber-framed structure at rear; brick stack to pantile roof. EXTERIOR: 3-storey 2-window front. Pilastered shopfronts with small-pane windows and doors beneath decorative overlights. No.42 has tripartite sash with 4-pane centre window on first floor, two 16-pane sashes on second floor, all with painted sills and channelled wedge lintels with grooved keyblocks. No.43 has inserted bow window with 8:12:8-pane sashes on first floor, one 16-pane sash with painted sill and flat arch of orange brick on second floor. Fluted inverted bell rainwater head initialled IN at right end of plain eaves band. Rear: 2-storey 2-bay block projects, with two 2x4-pane windows on first floor, one with horizontal sliding sashes, one with casements. Roof has one crown post truss. INTERIOR: not inspected.
