Description

YORK SE5953SW CLIFTON GREEN 1112-1/5/211 (North side) 24/06/83 No.22 GV II House. 1839 with later alterations. Painted roughcast with slate roof. Gothic cottage style. EXTERIOR: 1 storey plus attic. On the ground floor there are wide bay windows which have casements with glazing bars, and a continuous lead and glass roof which forms a central open porch. The attic is lit by 2 gabled dormers which have casements with glazing bars set in openings with pointed arches and moulded surrounds. The recessed front door has a moulded timber Tudor-arched surround, and 5 narrow panels with trefoiled heads, glazed with coloured leaded glass. The verges project at the gables. Gable chimneys. INTERIOR: not inspected. HISTORICAL NOTE: Nos 22 and 23 (qv) Clifton Green were built on a site bought by Seth Agar, grocer, at the sale of the De Grey estate in 1836, by George and Eli Horsfall, joiners.
