Description

YORK SE5952NE CLIFTON 1112-1/7/193 (North East side) 14/06/54 No.36 GV II House, now flats. c1740 with late C18 or early C19 additions, converted late C20. Narrow brick in Flemish bond with some painted stone dressings. Slate roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and 4 bays. The facade has a stone plinth to the 2 left-hand bays, 2 brick storey bands, painted stone sill bands to the ground and first floor, and a modillion gutter cornice. A straight joint suggests that the 2 right-hand bays are an addition. The windows are glazing bar sashes and have segmental brick arches on the ground and first floors. The doorway, to the right of the 2nd bay, is recessed within an opening which has a semicircular arch of rubbed bricks. The reveals are lined with timber and there is a semicircular overlight with leaded glazing. The door has 2 glazed panels above 4 raised and fielded panels. Chimneys at left and to right of 2nd bay.
