1112-1/0/10041 MILL MOUNT 04-AUG-03 Micklegate Mill Mount Lodge
II Detached villa, now offices. c. 1845 with minor C20 alterations. Probably designed by JB & W Atkinson of York. White and red brick with ashlar dressings and deeply overhanging hipped slate roof. Deep basement, two storeys and attic. North-east 3 storey entrance front has 3 windows. Slightly projecting right bay has ashlar pilaster doorcase with brackets supporting the ashlar balcony above, either side single small plain sash windows and another similar sash to left. Flat lintel ashlar band. Above slightly recessed centre has two segment headed sashes and above a pair of larger round headed sashes with brick pilaster surrounds. Either side single large sashes with ashlar lintels with rounded tops and above again smaller sash windows. South-east front has red brick basement with small doorway and a small sash to right. Above an altered sash and a round headed staircase window. South-west garden front has central doorway with ashlar surround flanked by projecting canted bay windows. Above a central sash window in ashlar pilaster surround flanked by single slightly larger windows. Attic has two pedimented dormer windows with C20 casements. North-west front has various sash windows. INTERIOR has fine staircase which rises between walls with good quality Classical plaster decoration including pilasters and brackets. On the upper floor this staircase opens up into a single flight return stair with an unusual timber balustrade on both sides with square newels topped with acorns. The hall and landings have good quality plaster decoration in a similar Classical style. Reception rooms have well preserved doors and doorcases with interesting Classical style plasterwork and timber shutters. One white marble fire surround survives.
