Description

YORK SE5951NE TANNER ROW 1112-1/15/1059 (South side) No.25 The Burns Hotel GV II Hotel. Late C18, altered mid C19. Stucco front, with timber shopfront; rear of painted brick in English garden-wall bond; moulded cornice to slate roof with right end brick stack. EXTERIOR: 4-storey 2-window front. Shopfront of moulded pilasters, sloped fascia and dentilled cornice between grooved consoles capped with segmental gablets. Glazed door recessed in lobby to left of 3-light plate glass window: lobby has mosaic tiled floor incorporating hotel name. Windows on first floor are 4-pane sashes; on second floor tall unequal 6-pane sashes in architraves beneath cornice hoods on consoles; on third floor, unequal 6-pane sashes in architraves with cambered heads. First floor has angle strips of raised chamfered quoins; on second and third floors, windows are set between broad moulded pilasters with moulded capping, rising from shaped moulded band below second floor windows.
