Description

YORK SE6051NW SHAMBLES 1112-1/28/1105 (North East side) 14/06/54 Nos.7 AND 8 (Formerly Listed as: SHAMBLES Nos.7, 8 AND 9) GV II* Two houses; now one shop and offices. No.7 late C15, No.8 early C15, both with later rear extensions; C20 renovation. Both timber-framed, fronts rendered; pantile roofs with brick stack to No.8. EXTERIOR: 3-storeys; 1 gabled bay to each house, upper floors jettied; exposed crown post truss in gable to No.7. Jetty bressumers to No.7 are moulded and embattled, those to No.8 plain. Shopfront to No.7 has large plate glass window to left of glazed and panelled door. Shopfront to No.8 has 4-light small-pane window over panelled riser, with 4-panel door to right giving access to upper floors. Both shopfronts retain external counters on massive brackets. No.7 has 4-pane sash window on first floor, 2x6-pane Yorkshire sash on second floor. No.8 has 20-pane sash on first floor, 4-pane sash on second floor. Rear of No.8: 2 storeys, 1 gabled bay. Replacement windows on both floors, that on first floor beneath partly blocked segmental brick arch. INTERIOR: substantial remains of timber-frame survive in both houses.
