Description

YORK SE5950NW MOUNT VALE 1112-1/24/769 (South East side) 24/06/83 No.159 Herdsman's Cottage II House. c1840. Brick in Flemish bond with blue tile DPC. Slate roof. Cruciform plan cottage orne. EXTERIOR: single storey with attic. Each gable one bay with cusped bargeboards which have hollow pendants at each side and at the apex. The pendants are now missing from the apexes of the north and south gables and from the right-hand side of the south gable. The windows are casements. The north gable has a single-storey timber canted bay window with a cornice and with 2 lights facing forwards. Set back to the right of the gable is the front door, with 2 raised and fielded panels under a timber lattice porch with gable finial. The attic window in the west gable is a C20 replacement. To the right is a brick outhouse addition. Set back to the right of the south gable is a C20 back door. Central chimney stack with stone cornice. INTERIOR: not inspected.
