Description

YORK SE6052SW MINSTER YARD 1112-1/27/710 (South East side) 18/11/77 No.7 GV II House. c1730 incorporating earlier structure at rear; front range altered in early C19. Front range stuccoed on painted rendered plinth; rear range timber-framed encased in pink-cream and orange-brown brick in English garden-wall bond, rendered in places: slate and pantile roofs and brick stacks. EXTERIOR: 2-storey 3-bay front. Central doorcase has grooved jambs and frieze, moulded cornice on grooved consoles and 6-panel door beneath divided overlight. Flanking windows are full height canted bays with 12:16:12-pane sashes on both floors: window over door is 12-pane sash with louvred shutters. Moulded frieze and dentilled cornice runs full width of front, rising to pedimented gables over bay windows. Raised first floor band. Rear: 3-storey gabled wing with cambered tie beam exposed below second floor. Ground floor obscured by later outbuilding and wall: windows on first and second floors are 16-pane sashes. Left return of wing has irregular fenestration including 12-pane sash on first floor and raking dormer with 12-pane sash in attic. Right return has 12-pane sashes, two in raking dormers. INTERIOR: not inspected.. RCHM record that several original fittings survive, including main staircase, doors of 2 fielded panels and two fireplaces, one of stone: one on first floor has carved oakleaf decoration. Other fireplaces are decorated with composition mouldings of garlands, candlesticks and drops. (City of York: RCHME: The Central Area: HMSO: 1981-: 164). Listing NGR: SE6041152136
