Description

YORK SE6052SW LOW PETERGATE 1112-1/27/599 (South West side) 14/06/54 Nos.73, 75 AND 77 GV II* Formerly known as: Nos.46, 47 AND 48 LOW PETERGATE. Four houses, now three shops. Late C16 with later extensions; C19 conversion to shops; further alteration in C20. Timber-framed, fronted in stucco incised to resemble ashlar; pantile roofs with barge-boarded gables and one brick stack. EXTERIOR: 3-storey 4-bay front, each bay gabled, and upper floors jettied. No.73 has shopfront with plain jambs and moulded panel frieze beneath broad bowed fascia: shop window is of 2 lights, to right of recessed glazed door and overlight: on first floor, 20-pane bow window, on second floor, 16-pane sash. No.75 has C20 shopfront of plain pilasters with imposts and moulded console brackets at the heads beneath broad fascia board, plate glass windows and glazed and panelled door: first floor windows are 2- and 4-light casements; second floor, two 2x1-pane Yorkshire sashes. No.77 has C19 shopfront of sunk-panel pilasters with imposts and plain fascia board: windows are plate glass over sunk-panel risers on either side of recessed glazed and panelled door: at right, board passage door: first floor windows are paired 2-light casements with transoms and small sash to right: on second floor, four 2-pane Yorkshire sash. INTERIOR: timber-frame is exposed on ground floor of Nos 75 and 77. No.75 retains massive chimney breast with two hearths, in rear room. (City of York: RCHME: The Central Area: HMSO: 1981-: 195-6).
