Description

This monument was upgraded to Grade II* on 28th October 2015 YORK SE5951NE LEEMAN ROAD 1112-1/15/542 (North side (off)) 10/09/70 City War Memorial in War Memorial Garden II* War memorial. 1924. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Portland stone. A tall tapering chamfered cross with short arms rises from a stepped pedestal of rectangular plan, which is inscribed on the south side 'TO THE CITIZENS OF YORK 1914 - 1918 1939 - 1945', and on the north side 'THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE'. The pedestal is surrounded by 5 steps, the upper step with coved undercutting. Listing NGR: SE5983651920
