Description

YORK SE6051NW KING STREET 1112-1/28/516 (South East side) No.4 The Grapes Public House GV II Public house. c1860, with later internal alteration. Orange brick in Flemish bond on painted stone plinth; door and ground floor window cases of timber, and moulded eaves frieze and bracketed cornice between heavy consoles; brick stacks to slate roof. Originally central entrance plan. EXTERIOR: 3-storey 4-window front. Cellar opening in plinth to right of central doorway. Present entrance through round-arched passage opening with board door at left end. Original entrance has plain door recessed in sunk panel reveals, approached by steps; doorcase of plain pilasters on moulded bases with moulded imposts, shaped frieze and moulded cornice hood. Flanking windows are of 3 lights with moulded mullions and transoms in pilastered frames with sills and cornice hoods. First and second floor windows are 16-pane sashes with painted stone sills and cambered brick arches. One window on second floor blocked. INTERIOR: not inspected. Listing NGR: SE6033451632
