Excavation in advance of residential development recorded Roman, medieval and later features. A large post-medieval sand or clay pit had truncated most of the study area A trench was excavated, ranging in depth from 0.28m to 1.60m. A ditch terminal was revealed, believed to be of Roman date. Residual Roman pottery was encountered in later features. A probable boundary ditch, thought to have originated in the medieval period, was located. A series of stakeholes and postholes was identified. A number of these were aligned in two rows parallel to the probable medieval ditch. As such they are likely to be of medieval or post-medieval date. Post-medieval quarrying on the development site has removed approximately half to two-thirds of the development area down to a level beyond which no archaeological deposits survive.
