Description
Two trenches were excavated. Trench 1 was excavated to a depth of 1.3m. Natural subsoil was encountered, sloping from a depth of 0.55m below present ground level to a depth of 1.09m. Part of a 19th century brick structure was identified, and a stone capped brick lined 19th century well was uncovered. That subsoil was present so close to the surface is believed to result from extensive terracing associated with a house predating the existing building. This has removed any previously existing archaeological deposits.Trench 2 was excavated to a depth of 1.5m. A sequence of make-up deposits was identified, the earliest of which dated to the 18th-19th centuries.
