Description

Archaeological excavation of an area measuring c.24 x 14.5m at 3 Driffield terrace. Excavation in advance of redevelopment of the site following an evaluation in 2003 which revealed that the site was used as a cemetery. Natural gravel and clay lies at c.1.5-1.8m bgl but falls away to the south-west. The excavation revealed a ditch which contained 2nd century pottery in its fill and a large pit. The site was subsequently used as a Roman cemetery - recorded in 2003.
