Archaeological Excavations were undertaken by MAP Archaeological Consultancy Ltd at Bootham Engineering Works, Lawrence Street, York between May and October 2002. An Archaeological Watching Brief was undertaken on the roadway and areas not covered by the archaeological excavations between July and November 2002. Three areas were excavated: Areas A, D and F. Excavations in Area A revealed ten phases of activity including medieval ditches, gullies, cobble surfaces, furrows, pits and postholes, post-medieval subsoil, a well, deposits and ditches and modern building footings, pits and postholes. Areas D and F provided further evidence of medieval occupation in the form of pits, ditches and gullies, together with further features of post-Medieval and later date.
