Between 22nd November and 12th December 2011 York Archaeological Trust undertook a watching brief between Waverly Street and Penley’s Grove Street, York. The objective was to record any deposits, features or buried structures of archaeological significance encountered during the works, the excavation of a trench for a new electricity cable. The site was visited on a regular basis usually twice a day when excavation work was in progress. Recording took the form of written notes and measured sketches supplemented by a series of colour digital photographs. A total of ten specimen sections were recorded.
