Description

Towards the end of April, York Archaeological Trust carried out an earthwork survey and watching brief at Manor Farm, Manor Lane, Rawcliffe, York, on a site lying between the corner of Manor Lane and Village Street, and the A1237 outer ring road. The work folllowed recommendations made by North Yorkshire County Council's Assistant Archaeological Officer, after consultation with York Archaeological Trust. Persimmon Homes provided York Archaeological Trust with information obtained from four borholes that had been sunk on the site prior to the commencement of the archaeological evaluation. The earthwork survey was undertaken prior to the commencement of building works. Only the northern half of the site was examined. The watching brief was carried out during the construction of the road system within the housing development.
