Description

This are lies to the east of Fulford Cemetery. The work was intended as a short preliminary survey and was undertaken two weeks before Christmas 20??. A hearth bottom and 28 billets were recovered suggesting a "large assemblage of iron in the centre of the field". In addition the area produced 1 tool, 1 possible anvil along with 20 plus pieces of slag. Metal detectorists also detected a number of items of "ceramic which ... have now been recognised as pieces of tuyere". Area also contains supposed charcoal pits, found through soil sampling, just beyond the northern edge, close to Germany Beck.
