Description

Yorkshire Museum accession code: 1998.332. Excavation undertaken prior to the construction of new flats. Two trenches were excavated, and a watching brief was also undertaken during groundworks. Roman features consistent with industrial use of the site were found; medieval use of the site seemed confined to agricultural activities. A brick building was also discovered; this could be identified on the first Ordnance Survey map of the area. During the watching brief, part of the ground plan of a structure interpreted as the remains of St Catherine's Hospital were found. The work was funded by K.W. Linfoot plc. RCHME Microfilm Index Number 7766
