York Historic Environment Record

On 9th October 2012 York Archaeological Trust undertook a watching brief on works outside 19 Regent Street, York. The objective was to record any deposits, features or buried structures exposed during the excavation of a trench, measuring c.1.1m x 0.9m, for a new power supply to the property. The site lies within the City of York Central Area of Archaeological Importance and close to the line of a Roman road approximately followed by Lawrence Street. Recording was by means of written notes and measured sketches supplemented by a number of colour digital photographs. One representative section, facing north-north-east, was recorded and is described below.
