Description

Between 26th June and 2nd August 2012 York Archaeological Trust undertook a watching brief during the excavation of a trench for the installation of a new electric cable duct running from Skeldergate, York to just south-east of Upper Poppleton. The objective was to record any deposits, features or buried structures exposed during the excavation of the trench. Archaeological monitoring was concentrated on the section from Skeldergate to just west of Lendal Bridge. Recording was by means of written notes and measured sketches supplemented by a number of colour digital photographs. Just two representative sections were recorded and they are described below.
