York Historic Environment Record

Between 17th and 23rd January 2012 York Archaeological Trust undertook a watching on works in St Helen’s Square, York. The objective was to record any deposits, features or buried structures exposed during the excavation of a trench for a new electricity supply to the premises known as Lendal Cellars. The trench was visited on a regular, daily, basis until the actual excavation work had been completed. Recording was by means of written notes and measured sketches. A single representative section was recorded and is described below.
