Description

DBA - This study indicates that the site lies in an area rich in archaeology, dating from the Roman period to the present day. These archaeological remains may include parts of the Roman Legionary Fortress and portions of St. Leonard’s Hospital, one of the largest and wealthiest in England during the medieval period. The extent and nature of any such remains is unclear as is the state of preservation, although away from the basements of 1–9 St. Leonard’s Place and 2–4 Museum Street, the archaeological potential is likely to be high but this cannot be confirmed at present.
