Description

A large rectangular enclosure was delineated by V-shaped ditches. It appeared to be associated with further ditches which extended to the north. A number of post-built structures were found within the enclosure. The north-west quadrant of the enclosure was divided from the rest by two shallow curving ditches. Immediately to the north of the large enclosure a small sill-beam built rectangular structure was found. Further north there were a number of smaller ditches and ephemeral circular enclosures. This settlement, interpreted as a ditched compound of a farm, was dated to the Romano-British period. NMR Information: Excavation revealed Roman farmstead. Yorkshire Museum Accession Code: 1996.390. RCHME Microfilm Index PRN: 6442.
