An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by On-Site Archaeology Ltd at 87 Stockton Lane, Heworth, York during redevelopment of the property. The watching brief involved monitoring groundwork excavation of a foundation platform trench for new extension located to the rear of the property. The work was undertaken to satisfy a condition attached to a planning consent (15/00692/FUL). The excavation revealed an in-filled ditch of a probable 18th to 19th century date. A field boundary of a similar orientation and location is visible on 1st edition Ordnance Survey map and subsequent maps up until the 1930s when the house was constructed. No evidence of the earlier Roman activity was encountered during the investigation.
