Description

No report produced. On Site Arch comment Nov 2020: The archaeology was left in-situ beneath the new garage but appears to represent a Roman timber building, comprising several large cobble packed postholes, together with a flagstone hearth. Towards the street frontage these were very close to the level of the pavement along Tadcaster Road. The ground level within the existing garden rises up significantly further back from the frontage (and the house itself is raised above the level of the street) so that there was up to 1m of deposits over the archaeology towards the rear of the stripped area. I’m attaching the topographic survey that was submitted with the application and based on this it looks like the archaeology lies at around 16m AOD, or just below this.
