Description

An archaeological watching brief was undertaken by On-Site Archaeology Ltd, in March 2017, during ground works associated with the construction of a single dwelling on land southeast of St Mary’s Lane, York. The watching brief was commissioned by Bramhall Blenkharn Architects to satisfy a condition attached to the planning permission for the development (Planning Application Reference No. 15/01072/FUL). The investigation comprised of monitoring the machine excavation of foundation trenches and shallow ground reduction associated with the construction of the dwelling. No archaeological deposits or finds were revealed during the investigation despite the potential for remains dating from the Roman and medieval periods to be present.
