Description

A two trench archaeological evaluation was undertaken prior to proposed development within a field to the south of Northminster Business Park, York. The trenches were required to evaluate a geophysical anomaly discovered during previous site survey. One trench was placed in the area of the feature, the second in a ‘blank’ area to serve as a control trench to determine the validity of the geophysical survey. The control trench proved to be blank. The trench placed over the geophysical anomaly revealed the presence of a non-archaeological feature, perhaps the remains of ruts created during the dumping of topsoil on the site from the British Sugar Plant. No other archaeological features or finds were encountered during the evaluation.
