Description

On the 23rd January 2018 exploratory trench was excavated by York Archaeological Trust on behalf of Vastint Hospitality B.V. at the Moxy Hotel Development, Dundas Street. A large medieval limestone building at the site, first identified in 2012 (YAT 2013/03) and later investigated in 2016 (YAT 2016/28), is to be preserved in situ. This intervention aimed to rapidly establish whether remains of the building might be adversely affected by proposed groundworks and, if so, to mitigate the impacts by record or making adjustments to the proposed foundation pile locations. Also including the interventions from April 2018 to excavate and record the substantial Medieval building and excavate two Medieval burials.
