Description

Organization: Humble Heritage Humble Heritage Ltd undertook this Heritage Statement during November-December 2016 on behalf of the applicant Flanstead Ltd and their project architects Wildblood Macdonald. This assessment is intended to inform and accompany an application for planning permission and listed building consent in connection with a proposed scheme to convert the existing dwelling and storage/garage into three two-bedroom apartments and one one-bedroom apartment. Existing ground floor retail units are proposed to be retained with minor amendments to improve welfare facilities. This report assesses the origins, historical development and current character of the two properties at 95 and 97 Micklegate and their heritage significance. Both properties have been considerably altered and rebuilt over time but likely had late 16th or early 17th century origins. They have both been extended to the rear with a variety of mid-late 20th century offshoots and an early-mid 19th century former warehouse. Today the application site comprises two retail units, an independent four-bedroom dwelling and substantial, largely disused, storage areas and a garage.
