NMR Information: Museum accession code: 1988.1017 Source: York Archaeological Trust annual report /1988-1989/25 Site notebook extract: Excavation by YAT of a 7.50m x 1.00m trench to a Depth of 4m: Revealed over full area of trench ‘modern’ Victorian age deposits/backfill to a depth of 3.60m below The surface. Beneath this was dark silty layers and sand with pockets of solid clay at 4m. These lower levels presumably relating to the foss fish pond or flood area of the River Foss. No further excavation undertaken.
