Description

The works with which this watching brief was concerned consisted of a service trench in the eastern part of the school property. The service trench, which was 0.60m wide, was mechanically excavated by contractors under archaeological supervision. The south-west - north-east arm of the trench was excavated to a depth of 1.0m, the south-east - north-west arm to a depth of 0.80m. Subsequent to some hand cleaning, a single 3.0m long section was drawn of deposits within each arm of the trench. Descriptive notes relating to individual deposits were also made and a number of digital photographs taken. These works follow on from observations of two test-pits, two trial trenches and two bore-holes reported in YAT 2006/11.
