Description

The excavation of a lift shaft inside an office block at 5 Rougier Street monitored in November 1999. An interesting sequence of archaeological deposits dating from the 13th or 14th centuries through to the 20th century was recovered. The deposits were well preserved, complex and well stratified and included evidence for several phases of building on the site. These appear to relate to properties on Tanner Row or Tanner Street during the medieval and post-medieval periods. Macnab N/1999/5 Rougier Street, York: report on an archaeological watching brief/Report No 99/84.
