Description

Monitoring of trench excavated for utility upgrading recorded human bone from two separate deposits. The lowest observed deposit may have been a graveyard soil associated with All Saints Church and was probably the source of the human bone in the upper deposits. The human bone was removed from public view and reburied within the trench at the end of the works. It is not believed that there was any significant disturbance to archaeological deposits during this work. Source: Evans D T/2009/Utility Trench, High Ousegate, York: archaeological watching brief.
