Description

Monitoring of the excavation of a trial pit and two boreholes to assess the need for repairs recorded no archaeological deposits. Location uncertain as no illustrations in report. The excavated material consisted of a mid-brown silty clay loam containing several fragments of limestone, some sherds of 19th/20th century pottery and frequent amounts of brick rubble and animal bone. This material would seem to be the backfill of the construction trench for the present building. The foundations were present at least 0·55m below the present ground level, the lowest 0·15m of this consisting of roughly worked, irregular blocks of limestone occasionally mortared together.
