Description

Archaeological building survey of Lord Deramore’s Primary School (former), School Lane, Heslington, commissioned from Archaeological Building Recording Services (ABRS) by Grant Fieldhouse (projects) Ltd in advance of the proposed conservation and conversion of the building to residential use. The building is listed at Grade II and described as a village school dating to 1856, extensive and unsympathetic modern alterations have left little of historic or architectural significance within the building. The principal elevation has remained largely unaltered, the rear elevations show signs of significant repair or rebuilding. The building is a fine example of a mid 19th century village school, the quality of the finish reflects the wealth and influence of its then benefactors.
