Description

A watching brief on commencement works for the York Flood Alleviation Scheme was undertaken by York Archaeological Trust on behalf of Capita AECOM between 12th May and 7th August 2020, as well as an additional visit on the 15th September 2020 at York Flood Alleviation Scheme, Flood Cell B11. No significant archaeology was encountered during the course of the works. It can be inferred due to the topography of the playing field that the area had been landscaped to flatten the field during the 19th and 20th century. If there was any archaeology present prior to the landscaping it will have been removed. However, in general the site was sterile of finds suggesting the area had been predominantly agricultural.
