Description

A geophysical survey of the site was carried out as an initial stage of evaluation. Recent investigations in the vicinity of the current site have shown evidence that suggests late prehistoric and Romano-British archaeological features are dispersed across this area and it is therefore difficult to predict if such features will be present on any individual site. Even where no earlier archaeological features have been identified the majority of sites have encountered evidence for medieval agricultural land use, generally in the form of truncated plough furrows. The agricultural character of the area continued well into the early modern period as illustrated on historic Ordnance Survey maps. The magnetic survey at Northminster Business Park only revealed two anomalies that may not be related to recent land use. The isolated nature of these features suggests they are probably not of archaeological nature.
