Description

Watching brief during sewer repairs at the junction of Micklegate and Barker Lane. The trench was 5.10m x 2.9m and reached a depth of 4.6m to c.14.50m AOD. Recording was difficult by the use of shoring. Only a small gap at the SW end of the NW side were available to allow inspection of the stratigraphic sequence. The lowest deposit consisted of sandy/silty natural. A small feature 0.6m deep was noted cutting into the natural deposit - possibly an early land division. The sequence was very difficult to interpret due to limitations of access. (YAT Roman York 4/2).
