Description
The observations made during the monitoring concurred with those made during an
archaeological evaluation undertaken by York Archaeological Trust in 2019 at the same site. A clearance event seems to have taken place during the 20th century over the whole area of the
former Carpetright store. The concrete foundations of the Carpetright store were c. 1.00m in
thickness. The rest of the deposits seen across the site were likely to be made ground and
demolition deposits dating the 19th and 20th century. The whole area was reduced by
approximately 1.50m during the course of the monitoring.
