A watching brief on groundworks for new duct overlay was undertaken by York Archaeological Trust on behalf of Openreach. No archaeological evidence was identified during the works. Although the trench was situated in an area of high archaeological importance, it is clear that the deposits directly below the modern pavement have been heavily disturbed by modern activity. However, it is possible that archaeological remains may still exist below the depth of modern disturbance.
