Description
The opportunity for recording was provided by the need to investigate movement of parts of the first floor continuous coved jettying of the SE range, where it faces into the courtyard, and to carry out remedial structural works with minor braces and plates of steel. In accordance with best practice, these remedial works did not involve substantial removal of timber, merely the strengthening of selected parts.
It is apparent that at least certain elements of the room arrangements of the first floor of the SE range as it now exists represent post-medieval reordering, for example the SE wall of the larger room.
