Description

The site lies in an area with archaeological potential, close to a known Roman cremation cemetery. An archaeological watching brief was proposed to take place during construction. However, following demolition of the former garage the site was seen to contain multiple 20th century intrusions, most notably large redundant fuel tanks. Due to an oversight removal of the intrusions was undertaken without archaeological presence. The resulting voids were then mass filled and stabilised before construction of the new residential development. Photographs were provided by the project engineer to the archaeological contractor illustrating the level of previous truncation. On the basis of the photographic record the potential for archaeological remains to have been disturbed by the current development is considered to be very low.
