Watching brief undertaken to observe and record structural repairs to the city wall immediately north of Micklegate Bar. Photogrammetric survey of the affected area was undertaken before the repair work began to provide an accurate record of the wall face and aid reinstatement. The watching brief involved monitoring of remedial works on the parapet wall and hand-excavation of two investigative trenches (external rampart and walkway). In addition to providing information about the nature of the city walls foundations the investigations revealed evidence of 19th century alterations to the structure relating to the creation of, and later adjustments to, the parapet walkway.
