Description
The Magnet PH was designed by Sir Bertram Wilson and built for John Smiths Brewery in 1934. It was specifically designed to serve the newly constructed surrounding housing estate. Although The Magnet PH is considered to be the best example of these type of inter-war suburbs ‘improved’ houses; it has been neglected
and the interior design has fallen into disrepair. The historic building recording established later alterations and additions including a small porch, a kitchen and a ladies’ toilet.
The historic building recording has provided an account of the developmental history and purpose of The Magnet PH to an appropriate level, as recommended by the CYC Archaeologist.
