Description

The works were undertaken as part of the York Racecourse Southern End Development Scheme and included the construction of a new Roberto Bar Pavilion, a single-story extension to the Bustardthorpe Stand, landscaping and other ancillary works. Themonitoring took place during the demolition, repair and installation of drainage systems and during foundation excavation associated with the new build element of the scheme. Little of archaeological significance was encountered. Structural remains found east of the Bustardthorpe Stand appear likely to belong to of a range of buildings shown on 19th century Ordnance Survey (OS) mapping. Structural remains found in the northern part of the site potentially relate to a mid-20th century Tote Building and other more recently demolished structures.
