Description

The Archaeological Excavation at the Jorvik Hotel, Marygate, York was carried out in between April and August 2019. This Open Area excavation followed a small scheme of Archaeological Trial Trenching that established archaeological deposits at the site, buried beneath deep deposits of post-medieval and modern dumping. A wide range of archaeological features and deposits covering four periods of activity from the Roman to post-medieval periods was recorded. Notable finds were a second century building and a 12-13th century multi-flued pottery kiln, an archaeomagnetic dated of around 1260 AD being obtained for its final use.
