Description
The evaluation comprised the excavation of a single trench, located within the footprint of a proposed residential development. The trench revealed natural clay at a depth of c. 600mm below the modern ground surface, at around 12.70m AOD. The natural was cut by a total of four parallel linear archaeological features. Two of these were plough furrows, one of which contained a fragment of clay pipe stem and had also had a 19th century land drain inserted into it. The other two features were ditches, one of which contained post-medieval pottery. The ditches appear to have formed a boundary between agricultural fields to the west of Fulford Road.
