Full Description
Includes: No.5 KING'S STAITH. Two houses, and railings attached to King's Staith front. Mid C19, with later alteration. Orange brick in Flemish bond, painted on ground floor, on ashlar plinth; doorcases, and moulded eaves frieze and modillion cornice terminating in grooved consoles, of timber. Slate roof with brick stacks. Cast-iron railings on stone plinth. EXTERIOR: King Street front: 3 storeys, 4 windows. Right of centre entrance is 4-panel door beneath divided overlight, in pilaster and entablature doorcase with moulded imposts and bold cornice. At far left end is rear passage door beneath divided overlight; original window to right altered to glazed door. 4-pane sashes with louvred shutters flank main entrance: on first and second floors windows are 12-pane sashes: all windows have cambered heads. All openings except main entrance have flat arches of gauged brick. Raised painted stone sill band to ground floor windows; painted moulded band to first floor; painted stone sills to second floor windows. King's Staith front: 3 storeys raised on high plinth, 3 windows. Flight of steps up to central entrance, similar to entrance on King's Street. All windows are 4-pane sashes with cambered heads and flat arches of gauged brick, with small inserted window to right of first floor centre window. Other detail repeats that on King's Street front. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: turned spearhead railings with mace-head standards attached to front steps and returning along front of house.
